We perform many types of orthopedic(bone) surgeries in our clinic. Because we want to ensure that our patients receive the best possible outcome, we occasionally refer them to a board-certified orthopedic surgeon to perform a TPLO, bone plating, or back surgery.
Ruptured ACL’s (a ligament in the knee joint), is the most common orthopedic problem at our clinic. This injury often is a result of age and conformation, not injury and occurs most frequently in middle-aged large breed dogs. There are multiple surgical options: extracapsular repair, which can be performed at our hospital, a TPLO or a TTA, which must be done by a specialist.
The other common orthopedic injury is a broken (fractured) leg secondary to trauma. They can be treated in a variety of ways depending on the location and type of fracture. We can apply a cast or splint, however most fractures will require surgery to repair and stabilize the fracture .
